Date Night Jar

My husband and I were given a “Date Night Jar” at my bridal shower. Each guest at the shower wrote down a great, simple but unique date night idea on a wood craft stick and placed it in a jar.

Doing the same things over and over gets old, and studies show that couples who do new things on a regular basis have happier, stronger, and in turn, more successful relationships.

So what a simple way to keep things fresh and fun by taking suggestions from others who’ve enjoyed and found unique date nights and outings of their own. This idea is also a great way to make guests feel included and excited during a wedding event, like a bridal shower, reception or even a baby shower.

Here’s a list of the fun date night ideas in our jar:

  • Go to a football game
  • Drive-in movie
  • Play Mario Kart
  • Record Bar (or live music bar/food establishment)
  • Have a picnic
  • Outside theatre
  • Listen to music together
  • Go to the library and read
  • Float on a river/lake
  • Star gaze
  • Canvas and Cabernet (an wine and paint class)
  • Dance lessons
  • Mini golf (bet something at each hole)
  • Take a country drive
  • Dinner and a movie
  • Class at the YMCA
  • Concert night
  • Taco Tuesday
  • Visit a garden
  • Apple picking
  • Play with animals at a shelter

  1. That’s an awesome idea! In the next few years we’ll start enjoying the weddings of our kids’ friends (and eventually our own children’s) so I’ll keep this one on file.

  2. Oh, that is an absolutely terrific idea!! We have zero money for date nights, and no one to babysit our kids for free anymore, so all we get are “living room dates”. We put the kids in their rooms with a movie and a snack, then we watch a show and have a special snack together, or just talk. Not really a great date idea, but better than nothing. 🙂
On the actual simple date suggestions: Go four wheeling. Go fishing. Have a picnic at the park, in the woods, by a lake or anywhere else you find peaceful. Go rollerskating and pretend you’re still teenagers holding hands. 😉

  3. If our toddler falls asleep for the night in the car, my husband and I will have a “date” and drive around and explore and talk or just listen to music that’s not disney music. 🙂

  4. That is such a great idea for a bridal shower gift! A few things my husband and I like to do:
Movie night at our house (with snacks and popcorn)
    Cook together
Be a tourist in our city-just go sight seeing
    Wander on the beach
And like Jenny (andthreetogo) said, when the kiddos fall asleep in the car, we just drive around and get to talk with our music on.

  5. I love this! We are always at a loss for what to do! Especially when you have a nursing baby who has to come with! One fun thing we did this summer that was unique and totally baby friendly was the batting cages! I needed to letdown aggression out from chasing our 2 year old and caring for a newborn! Hah!

  6. This is a great list. We like to go someplace we have never been before. This is usually inspired by food – lol – we find a restaurant and will travel to try it. It’s fun and time together we remember every time we taste a similar meal.
