Day 11 of Countdown to Oliver: Wash

Once again, welcome to the nesting stage of pregnancy. The week of organizing files, cleaning house, stocking up and today, washing shower curtains, rugs and sheets. Not too much to share or show you, but if I could add clean laundry smell into this post, life would be great. I do have a couple washing tips for you.

Tip #1:
When your clear shower curtain starts to get gross along the bottom, you don’t have to pitch it and buy a new one. You can throw it in the washer on warm with some bleach and leave it out or hang it up to dry. It will look brand new again.

Tip #2:
Always start your water and put in laundry detergent before you put in clothes. This way the detergent gets distributed throughout the water evenly, and it doesn’t end up gunked on a random piece of clothing.

Tip #3:
That “recommended” amount line on your laundry detergent lid, yeah, you can totally use way less and save yourself some money. Unless I’m washing a load of super, stinky gym clothes, I use about half the recommended amount. It still works just as well.

Tip #4:
Speaking of saving money, I recently discovered making my own detergent is FAR more cost effective, only costing about $30-$60 a year, depending on how often you do laundry. Plus, you can customize it to whatever scent you prefer (by adding an essential oil) or however natural you want your detergent to be. Here’s a couple helpful DIY detergent posts…
