Day 27 of Countdown to Oliver: Workout Regimen

I think it’s extremely helpful and just all around good for a pregnant woman’s body to get exercise. I’ve personally seen and noticed a large difference, health and body wise, in pregnant women who didn’t exercise versus those who did. Each semester I modify my exercises, but I’ve always mostly stuck with yoga or Pilates paired with basic stretching. Both pregnancies, I do wish I’d done some lifting and running/jogging, and really think it would’ve helped a lot, physically, but it simply didn’t happen.

Here are some resources I found to be simple and helpful for pregnancy workouts:

I also consider going to my chiropractor–a women’s, pregnancy/postpartum and pediatric specialist–a part of my “workout” regimen as well. It keeps me all-around healthier, and she also gives me stretches to do that help prepare my body for birth.

So, here is my workout regimen for the final four weeks of pregnancy:

  • Simple stretching in the morning–various arm and leg stretches, both standing and sitting on the floor
  • Lift 3 lb weights, sets of 15–bicep curls, lateral raise, hammer curl, and whatever else my arms can come up with!
  • Various yoga poses
  • An outside walk or swim at least 3 times weekly
  • A weekly visit to the chiropractor for the last 4 weeks only (from previously going 1-2 times a month)
